How To Go On Vacation + Stay Healthy
I encourage people to go on vacation – it’s super important for all of us to take extended time away from devices, internet, and work. For many people, though, vacation equates eating whatever they want, staying up super late, and coming home feeling not-so-great and more tired than before they left.
I’d love to help shift the thinking around vacation and help people view it as a healthy break. Here are my top tips for truly feeling rested, restored, and staying healthy while on vacation:
1.Set Your Intention For Vacation Before You Go
It might sound silly, but often getting ready for vacation is hectic. Then suddenly, vacation is half-way over and you haven’t had a chance to do some of what you had wanted. Take some time before you go to really set your intention for this time off and time away. What do you want to do? How do you want to feel during vacation? How do you want to feel when you get home?
2.Set Yourself Up For Success (Hint: Plan Ahead)
That’s right! Staying on track and getting what you want takes planning and preparation – even when it’s vacation. Think about meals, exercising, and what you need to bring so that it’s easy. And if most of your meals are dining out, remember the fab 4 for a healthy meal (lean protein, fiber, good carbs, and good fats).
3.Bring Your Supplements With You

4.Get Some Sleep
Be sure to schedule in some down time. Whether your vacation is touring around or sitting on the beach, it can wear you out. Being in another place is often tiring, so be sure to get enough sleep so your body can truly restore.
Maybe you’re vacationing at the beach and you plan to sit at the waters edge and read as much as you can – but still try to get some long walks or beach runs in that week so when you return, you’re still feeling strong and healthy. It’s actually pretty easy to incorporate exercising into vacation almost anywhere you are – renting bikes, going for long walks, yoga on the beach, swimming, etc. Get creative and maybe do something you don’t normally do at home. Exercise + movement is a big part of a healthy lifestyle because it keeps your immune system strong as well as your mind and body.
