But it doesn't have to be an unhealthy treat - it can actually become a nourishing, yet comforting and indulgent treat. Here's our go-to healthy hot chocolate recipe. Instead of being a sugary drink, it's filled with micro-nutrients + minerals our bodies need. Raw cacao is a superfood that is full of magnesium and calcium (more than cow's milk), contains 40x the antioxidant power of blueberries, excellent plant-based source of iron, mood booster, and a decadent treat. Couple that with dairy-free and sugar-free milk and low-glycemic sweetener and you've got a healthy version of a classic dessert.

Serves 2, 5oz mugs
10 oz almond milk or coconut milk (or a blend)
3 tbsp raw cacao powder (I love Navitas Naturals Brand)
1 tbsp raw coconut sugar
a few organic marshmallows
other options to try:
sprinkle cacao nibs on top
use liquid stevia or 1 tbsp maple syrup instead of coconut sugar
add a drop (1/4 tsp) of vanilla extract
pinch of celtic sea salt
