How To Avoid That Afternoon Slump
We've all experienced it -- when the hours between 3-5pm seem like they last forever. Whether you're at your desk in an office, working from home, running errands or to sports events, or you're at home trying to get *something* done with the kids' energy levels through the roof....It's almost like when you need energy and focus the most, your body just can't deliver.
This can happen for a lot of reasons, but if you tweak these 3 things each day, you will see a noticeable improvement in your energy + mood between the hours of 3-5pm :-)
1. Drink Water. Dehydration is a root cause of a lot of ailments. Stiff joints, headaches, low-energy, overeating, fatigue, digestive issues, and it's even believed to have a hand in the development of degenerative diseases.
>>> When you wake up, drink 8 oz of water before anything else.
>>> Throughout the day, make your goal to finish 1/2 of your body weight in ounces before 4pm. Fill up your water bottle after breakfast, snacks, and lunch.
>>> Have fun with it with the Hidrate Spark water bottle.
2. Eat Clean. Focus on adding in more of the good to crowd out the bad. Things like fresh fruit, nuts, seeds, green juice, salads, etc. Foods that weigh you down and will make you crash later in the day include: dairy, sugar (in food and drinks), fried foods.
>>> Start your day with a juice/smoothie and some nuts to fuel your morning. Keep your coffee intake to 1 cup (and skip the sugary specialty drinks).
>>> Eat every 3 hours and include protein, fiber, good carb, and good fat (ie: apple with almond butter for a snack, and a big salad with avocado for lunch)
>>> Finish your last meal by 7pm if you can (or 3 hours before bedtime)
3. Move your body when that slump usually hits. Set your alarm for a 3pm stretch or walk break. You don't need to run out and take an hour long class or go for a sweaty run, just move around out of your chair. Stretch + walk around the block and B R E A T H E deeply. Increasing your Oxygen intake will help your brain and body focus through that "witching hour(s)"
Give those 3 tips a try for 1 week and see how you feel!
